Charles Clarke the Home Secretary has confirmed that Identity cards will be in the Labour Party manifesto, published next week. Even though it has been ditched for the election. He has indicated that it would be an early priority for a re-elected government. Funnily enough, he blamed the Conservatives for the failure to introduce the legislation. Tories in the Lords had said they would not support the Bill in the format that it was presented.
