Microsoft today launches its long expected attack on Internet Search Engine arena. The biggest target in the sights is Google, by far the market leader. Yahoo has already been evicted off the MSN site. Previously they had supplied the search results when users had requested information from the web. The Microsoft engine lets you search the web, news or images. Additionally, Microsoft's encyclopedia, Encarta can be searched. Previously, Encarta data was chargeable. As a website publisher, I particularly like the idea that indexing takes place every two days rather the industry average of two weeks. However the claim by Microsoft remains to be verified. At the same time, MSN has been re-designed. The search functionality is now given more prominence. Lastly Microsoft claim that over 5 billion pages have been indexed. |
