Again, Internet Explorer is not the subject of a security vulnerability. Instead its upstart rivals the Firefox and Mozilla browsers could be the target. The Opera and Konquerer browsers are also affected by the flaw.

The vulnerability could lead to phishing attacks. Root of the problem is a flawed implementation of International Domain Name (IDN). The bad guys could register a domain using certain international characters. For instance microsoft.com would become m1crosoft.com (in certain fonts the 1 looks like a I).

The latest vulnerablity though is more pervasive because of the use of Unicode by IDN. The Unicode has thousands of characters in its set. This gives phishers much greater opportunity to do the worst.

Security firm Secunia has issued the advice not to follow links from untrusted sources and manually typing in the URL.

Affected browserss are Mozilla 1.7.5, Firefox 1.0, Konqueror 3.2.2 and Opera 7.54 so far confirmed.
