Windows XP SP2 Block Off

Windows XP administrators will be downloading SP2 automatically this week, if they use the Automatic Update service.

Microsoft had placed a blocker on SP2 in August 2004, to allow users to hold off, installing it, if they chose not to. They still received security patches though.

As of April 12th, the suspension has been lifted.

Most corporates however do not use the automated service. Instead preferring to use their own tools to upgrade. Microsoft, believes the change will not have a huge effect.

Microsoft claim that by February 2005, 170m customer have received SP2, either via download or CD.
