Bank Whistleblower Wins Job Back

A bank executive whistleblower has won re-instatement with her former employer, Washington Mutual.

The issue that Theresa Hagman, a vice-president blew the whistle on was the bank's lending practices. The largest thrift in the U.S., may have been violating federal regulatory requirements by underwriting and funding custom-home construction loans.

Following her dismissal three months later, she filed a complaint with the Labor Department. Citing the whistleblower elements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, she claimed here employee-protection rights had been violated.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal the Department found in her favour.
