US-VISIT Biometrics

The Department of Homeland Security has completed installing biometric entry capabilities at 104 land border ports as part of its US-VISIT program.

Thus biometrics are now deployed at all fixed ports of entry open to US-VISIT travelers.

The fifty busiest land ports with Mexico and Canada were installed with biometrics by the end of 2004. The other 54 have taken till now to deploy.

US-VISIT collects biometric and biographic information at U.S. visa-issuing posts on arrival. The whole program is a continuum of security measures.

DHS have found 970 people with criminal histories, immigration violations, federal convict escapees, rapists, drug trafficker and murders. To do so they collected biometric information on over 44 million visitors.

The US-VISIT program is run in conjunction with the State Department's BioVisa program.
