Iris Scanning Test

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has received an independent test report on iris recognition software.

Conducted by the International Biometric Group, the Independent Testing of Iris Recognition Technology (ITIRT) looked at accuracy, interoperability and usability.

Four hardware/software iris recognition solutions were tested.


 * - Iridian KnoWho OEM SDK
 * - LG IrisAccess 3000
 * - Oki IRISPASS-WG
 * - Panasonic BM-ET300

Over a hundred thousand iris scans were collected. The test subjects covered a range of ethnic and age groups.The lengthy report can be downloaded (requires registration.)

Functional and non-functional areas tested were:-


 * - False accept and false reject rates
 * - Failure to enroll and failure to acquire rates
 * - Transaction duration and level of effort
 * - Performance over time

Identity checking via iris scanning is currently a hot subject with the introduction biometric data into passports.
