Verizon Communications has announced that Donald T. Nicolaisen, former chief accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commision, to its board of directors.

Nicolaisen was chief accountant from August 2003 to October 2005. He was principal advisor to the SEC on accounting and auditing matters.

He worked closely with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in fully implementing the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
