Discover Tops Identity Theft Protection Survey

The Discover Card is the top card for protecting credit card holders against identity theft, according to a survey by Javelin Strategy and Research.

Using a "Identity Fraud Safety Scorecard", they measured 39 issuers on their fraud prevention, detection and resolution capabilities.

Javelin claim that the findings show that identity theft protection differentiates their offerings, deepens cardholder relationships and contain fraud losses.

Top of the list in terms of protection are;-

 * 1. Discover Card
 * 2. First National Bank of Omaha
 * 3. Citibank
 * 4. Bank of America
 * 5. American Express

Methods of increasing protection include email alerts for unusual transactions and limits on types of transactions.

The study shows that consumers want more from their financial institution in two primary areas: 1) a proactive approach that allows crimes to be prevented rather than resolved after-the-fact, and 2) advanced detection capabilities to give them a more active role in monitoring potential unauthorized activity, noted Edward Neumann, Managing Director of Consulting for Javelin Strategy & Research.
